AKM Law Professional Corporation
Aminder Kaur Mangat, B.A., LL.B., is a Canadian Barrister & Solicitor and a Certified Specialist in Immigration and Citizenship Law by the Law Society of Ontario. She is the founder and head legal counsel at AKM Law.
Aminder was elected to the OBA Immigration Section Executive Committee, where she serves as a Member-at-Large and the newsletter editor. She was named one of Toronto's Top Lawyers in both 2024 and 2025 by Post City Magazines, reflecting her ongoing reputation for legal strategy, client-focused advocacy, and a proven record of successful results in immigration law.
In 2025, Aminder was recognized by Women of Influence+ as one of Canada’s Top Three Women Entrepreneurs in the Micro-Business category of the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards. This places her among fewer than 800 women recognized over the award’s 33-year history. This distinction reflects her leadership in building AKM Law a trusted and leading immigration law firm that delivers high-level results, handles some of the most complex matters in the country, and continues to be recognized for legal excellence, precedent-setting advocacy, and a clear commitment to advancing access to justice.
Aminder has over a decade of exclusive Canadian immigration experience. She represents corporate clients as well as individuals in all types of matters, specializing in complex cases, including previously refused applications and cases with inadmissibility - criminality, misrepresentation and medical.
Aminder is a strong and passionate advocate, proven by her positive record of cases. Aminder's creative and unique approach has obtained several unprecedented decisions. She was one of first advocates to successfully argued the use of GPS monitoring on detained individuals, which had previously been vigorously opposed. Shortly after her appearance, Immigration Canada announced it would accept GPS monitoring as a condition of release for detainees. Aminder's influential win at the Federal Court of Canada established a landmark decision regarding notices for spousal sponsorship interviews: Johnson v. Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2017 FC 550 (CanLII).
